| Abstract
| - An electrochemical cell design of the Clark type includinga thin layer of electrolyte in contact with a microelectrodehas been successfully applied for the determination ofsulfide utilizing its electrochemically initiated reactionwith aqueous diethyl-p-phenylenediamine. The analyticalparameters obtained were independent of the membraneused to separate the inner chamber and the outsidesulfide-containing solution. The independence arisessince the thickness of the diffusion layer associated withthe microelectrode is small and, in contrast to theconventional macroelectrode Clark electrode, does notimpinge on the membrane. This provides an improvementin gas sensor design and development as it obviates theneed for membrane calibration and should simplify theapplication of Clark cells for variable-temperature measurements.
