The interactionof hydrous cerium oxide with cationic surfactants under basicconditions is used for the first time in the preparation ofCeO2 with enhanced textural and redox properties. Thereduction of Ce4+ to Ce3+ is stronglyaugmented, especially in the low-temperature regime, resulting in abroadening of the window of stability of Ce3+. Thisis accompanied by an increase of thermal stability in the region900−1150 K.
