Abstract
| - Uniform colloidal particles of thorium and cesiumtungstophosphates of different morphologies have been prepared by controlled precipitation. Themethod consists of directreaction of aqueous solutions of salts of the corresponding metals andtungstophosphoricacid, H3PW12O40, at elevatedtemperatures (90 °C) under certain conditions of thereactantconcentrations and the pH. The resulting Cs compound wasstoichiometric, whereas thethorium heteropoly particles contained excess thorium due to theincorporation of itshydrolysis products, generated under the employed experimentalconditions. The Cscompound showed a secondary structure similar to that of the parentacid, while the Thcompound was amorphous to X-rays. Both samples exhibited differentelectrokineticbehavior, the isoelectric point of Cs−tungstophosphate being at pH1.5, and that of the Thcompound at pH 5.4.
