Abstract
| - Crystal structures have been determined for a number of (tetraglyme)n:LiX solvates. Novel forms of Li+ cation coordination by polyether chains are observed which provide useful models of ionic interactions and solvate structures in concentrated electrolytes.
- Three crystal structures of tetraglyme coordination complexes with lithium salts arereported(tetraglyme)1:LiAsF6, (tetraglyme)1/2:LiBF4, and (tetraglyme)2/5:LiCF3CO2. A novelform of six-coordinate Li+ cation coordination by the ether oxygens is found resemblingdouble-helix dimers. Structural characterization of these materials provides insight into themolecular interactions which occur among the cations, anions, and ether oxygens. Suchinteractions are of interest for aiding in the understanding of the many factors whichcontribute to ionic conductivity mechanisms in amorphous concentrated liquid and solidpoly(ethylene oxide) electrolytes.
