Abstract
| - Linear and layered organically templated iron sulfates have been prepared underhydrothermal conditions. The linear iron sulfates, with the compositions [H3N(CH2)2NH3][FeF3(SO4)], I, [C(NH2)3]2[FeF(SO4)2], II, [H3N(CH2)2NH2(CH2)2NH3][FeF(SO4)2], III, and[H2N(CH2)4NH2][FeF3SO4], IV, possess the chain topologies found in tancoite, butlerite, andsideronatrite minerals. The layered sulfate V, with the composition [H3N(CH2)2NH3][Fe2F2(SO4)2(H2O)2], can be considered to be formed from butlerite-type chains and with a structuresimilar to that of the layered fluorophosphate, ULM-10. Whereas the linear chains showthe presence of antiferromagnetic interactions, the layered iron sulfate exhibits metamagnetism.
- The synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of novel organically templated 1D and 2D iron oxyfluorosulfates are presented. The chain topologies found are similar to those in tancoite and butlerite minerals. The layeres sulfate is metamagnetic while the linear sulfates are essentially paramagnetic.
