Two mixed-valence polyoxometalates were shown to serve both as good reductants of silver cation and efficient capping agents for the resulting metallic nanostructures. Both nanowires and spherical nanoparticles were observed, showing for the first time that polyoxometalates can also induce the synthesis of one-dimensional nanostructures in water.
