Abstract
| - The uniquely shaped spiropyran dimer, BIPSD, has been synthesized. BIPSD showed reversible transformation between spiro (Sp) and merocyanine (MC) forms under UV/visible light and change in temperature. Over-irradiation of UV produced stacking aggregates of MC forms, which were insoluble in most solvents and slowly returned to the original Sp form under the visible light. The BIPSD−polymer conjugates exhibited a similar photochromism.
