A new class of conducting discotic liquid crystals is identified in recently synthesized derivatives of heptacyclic triindole, which combine the hole transport properties of the carbazole unit with a columnar supramolecular organization, giving charge mobility values reaching μ ≈ 0.1 cm2 V−1 s−1. The high values of the HOMO energy levels can be important for all applications where charge injection from an electrode is required.
