Abstract	A unique one-stephigh-yield synthesis for the introduction of a vinyl-containingfunctional group into an octasilsesquioxane,[Si8O12](OR)8, molecule hasbeen developed. The target molecule, along with the bromine andmalonate derivatives, have been synthesized and characterized by avariety of traditional techniques. These silsesquioxane-basedderivatives are valuable compounds which can be used to form hybridpolymers of silicic acids and new ceramicmaterials.
