Abstract	The reaction of CF2(OF)2with CsF/COF2 to form the peroxide CF3OOC(O)F was first discovered in 1970, but the mechanism for this reaction has not been elucidated. By use of 13C-labeled CF2(OF)2 and COF2, the reaction has been reinvestigated and shown to be quite complex. To explain the observed isotopomers, both difluorodioxirane and the peroxyanion CF3OO- appear to be necessary intermediates.
