Abstract
| - A new type of mixed-valent iron-chloride cluster, [FeIII2FeII5(α,α-PDK)2(μ4-Cl)(μ3-Cl)4(μ-Cl)2(Cl)(H2O2], was synthesized by reacting FeCl2 with H4(α,α-PDK), where H4(α,α-PDK) is a porphyrin-linked dicarboxlate ligand. The cluster has several unusual structural features, including four kinds of coordination modes for a halide ligand and a μ4-Cl with tetragonal pyramidal geometry. A mechanism is proposed to account for the reaction, which differs from those of H4(α,α-PDK) with FeBr2 and FeI2.
