Abstract
| - A binuclear RuII complex including a p-carborane unit in the bridging ligand is reported. Photoinduced electron transfer across this spacer (k = 2.3 × 108 s-1) is observed in the RuII−RuIII mixed-valence species.
- The first example of a binuclear ruthenium complex involving thep-carborane framework in the bridging ligand is reported. Thebridging ligand is a symmetric linear array comprising a centralp-carborane unit, two p-phenylene spacers, and two 5-yl-2,2‘-bipyridine coordinating units. A homobinuclear RuII complex, with2,2‘-bipyridine as peripheral ligands, was synthesized and characterized. The RuII−RuIII mixed-valence species, obtained by partialoxidation, has been investigated with steady-state and time-resolvedtechniques in CH3CN. The rate of photoinduced electron transferis 2.3 × 108 s-1.
