Abstract
  • Density (ρ), viscosity (η), and refractive index (nD) data of the binary mixtures of anisole + benzene, +methylbenzene, + ethylbenzene, + propylbenzene, and + butylbenzene were measured over the whole compositionrange at (293.15 and 303.15) K and atmospheric pressure. The viscosity data were correlated by empirical andsemiempirical equations. The refractive index data were compared with calculated values using different modelsbased on mixing rules. The excess molar volumes (V E) and viscosity deviations (Δη) were derived from themeasurements. The V E and Δη of binary mixtures were fitted to Redlich−Kister polynomial equation. The excessand deviation functions are negative and decrease with increasing side chain length of the parent benzene moleculein the following order: benzene > methylbenzene > ethylbenzene > propylbenzene > butylbenzene.
