Abstract
  • As part of a search for novel inhibitors of endothelin convertingenzyme (ECE), the MeOHextract of a South African sponge, Pachastrella sp., wasshown to be active. Bioassay-guidedfractionation of the extract yielded a novel sterol sulfate, halistanoldisulfate B (1). Thestructure and stereochemistry of 1 was established mainly byinterpretation of spectral data.Disulfate (1) was found to be active at a micromolarconcentration in the ECE assay.
