Abstract
| - The phospholipid fatty acid composition ofEunicea succinea was investigated, and thenovel(5Z,9Z)-14-methyl-5,9-pentadecadienoic acid wasidentified. Structural characterization wasaccomplished by means of mass spectrometry of its pyrrolididederivative, NMR, FTIR, andtotal synthesis. Other interesting phospholipid fatty acids inE. succinea were the tetracosapolyenoic acids 6,9,12,15,18,21-tetracosahexaenoic acid (24:6) and6,9,12,15,18-tetracosapentaenoic acid (24:5). The title compound was particularly activeagainst Gram-positive bacteriasuch as Staphylococcus aureus (MIC 0.24 μmol/mL) andStreptococcus faecalis (MIC 0.16 μmol/mL).
