| Abstract
| - A new metabolite,1,3,6,8-tetrahydroxy-2-(1‘-hydroxy-3‘-oxobutyl)-anthraquinone,designatedas asparasone A (1), was isolated from an Aspergillusparasiticus mutant (ATCC 20979), andits structure was deduced from spectral data. Several wild-typeisolates of A. parasiticus alsoproduced 1. Asparasone A (1) is structurallyrelated to intermediates in the aflatoxinbiosynthetic pathway.
