A novel triterpene saponin (1) was isolated from an ethanol extract of the root bark of Aralia dasyphylla.Its structure was elucidated as 3-O-[β-d-glucopyranosyl (1→3)-β-d-galactopyranosyl(1→2)]-β-d-glucuronopyranosyl-oleanolic acid-28-O-β-d-glucopyranoside, according to spectral and chemical evidence.Compound 1 showed significant cytotoxic activity against KB and Hela-S3 cells.
