Abstract	Non-photochemical syntheses of optically activedimethyl[7]thiaheterohelicenes (P)-(+)-14 and(M)-(−)-14 are described. The key transformations in thesyntheses are the metal-mediated biarylcoupling reactions between two benzodithiophene units having oxazolinemoieties and theintramolecular McMurry coupling reaction of the biaryl dialdehydes(S)-13 and (R)-13.Theconfiguration of the atropisomer 10a obtained from thebiaryl coupling reaction was shown to beS by X-ray analysis.
