A stereodivergent route toward both diastereomeric forms of functionalized 4-hydroxypiperidines has beensuccessfully developed. This route involves biocatalyticgeneration of the enantiopure starting materials followedby functionalization via N-acyliminium ion-mediated CC-bond formation.
