Abstract
  • The present contribution discloses a simple andunexpected acid-catalyzed cleavage of tetrahydrotetrazinesleading to 1,2-bis(hydrazones). Incorporation of a chiralfragment derived from carbohydrates enables the rapidpreparation of glycosazones, a family of compounds employedby Emil Fischer to elucidate the configuration of sugars. Inaddition, a mechanistic proposal accounts for experimentalobservations.
