New facile methodology for the preparation of pentavalentiodine compounds using peracetic acid as an oxidant in thepresence of catalytic amounts of ruthenium trichloride isdescribed. The new procedure allows the preparation ofseveral previously unknown iodylarenes bearing stronglyelectron-withdrawing CF3 groups in the aromatic ring.
