Abstract	(±)-Paeonilide, a novel monoterpenoid metabolite from theroots of Paeonia delavayi showing anti-platelet activatingfactor activity, is convergently synthesized in five steps with59% overall yield. The application of benzoyl peroxide-promoted radical addition of unsaturated ester to aldehydeand subsequent topologically favored cyclization greatlysimplified the synthesis.
