| - The hypervalent iodine reagent PIFA promotes the intramolecular electrophilic cyclization of easily accessible alkynylamides and alkynyl carboxylic acids, leading to the formationof pyrrolidinone and lactone skeletons, respectively, in a veryefficient way. A synthetic study and a mechanistic proposalfor these transformations are presented.
