Abstract
  • The transition energies and the oscillator strengths ofboth the ultraviolet and visible series of the heliumatom have been calculated in a hot, weak coupling plasma environment, modeled in terms of the Yukawapotential. Our approach, based on the full configurationinteraction method, is found to be superior to thosebased on the atomic many-body perturbation theory, for it convergessmoothly to accurate vacuum values asthe screening parameter approaches to zero and also behaves smoothlywith respect to increasing screening. Thus, it could be useful for plasma diagnosticpurposes.
