Abstract
| - The reaction of O atoms with fullerene C60 was studiedbehind reflected shock waves by time dependentatomic and molecular resonance absorption spectroscopy. Mixturesof C60/N2O highly diluted in argonwereshock heated, and the absorption of O atoms at λ = 130.5 nm and ofCO[X∑+(ν‘ =0)→A1Π(ν‘‘ = 1)] at151.0 nm was monitored. Simultaneously, the time behavior ofspectrally resolved light emitted by the shock-heated mixtures was recorded by an intensified CCD camera in thewavelenghth range 315 nm ≤ λ ≤ 570nm. The experiments were performed in the temperature range 1870K≤ T ≤ 2625 K at pressures around1.30 bar. A kinetic model for the reaction system was developed. The evaluation of O atom concentrationmeasurements resulted in the following rate coefficient for thereaction C60 + O→CO + products: k2 = 3.0× 1015 exp(−11 450 K/T)cm3 mol-1s-1. The uncertainty ink2 is expected to be ±50%.
