Abstract
  • Laser-induced optoacoustic spectroscopy has been applied to thephotoinduced electron-transfer reactionbetween Ru(bpy)32+ and various salts ofFe(III) [Fe(ClO4)3,Fe2(SO4)3, andFeCl3]. The reaction volumechanges associated with photoinduced ligand exchange derived from thesemeasurements allowed thedetermination of partial molar volumes at high dilutions of severalspecies such as FeSO4, FeSO4+,Fe(SO4)2-,Fe(OH)2+, FeCl+, FeCl2+,and FeCl2+, not attainable from othertechniques. The volume change of oxidationof Ru(bpy)32+ toRu(bpy)33+ at high dilution was alsocalculated.
