Abstract
| - Ti-doped NaAlH4 can be directly prepared by mechanical milling a 1:1 mixture of NaH and Al together witha few mole percent of off-the-shelf metallic Ti powder under an argon or hydrogen atmosphere. The hydrogenstorage materials that are produced through this process exhibit stable hydrogen capacities through 10 cyclesof hydrogenation/dehydrogenation. We have conducted a systematic investigation of this new method for thepreparation of Ti-doped NaAlH4. Consideration of these results, together with those previously obtained forNaAlH4 that was doped with Ti powder through milling under a hydrogen atmosphere, has provided insightinto the nature of active Ti species.
