| - Scanning tunneling microscopy, noncontact atomic force microscopy, and low-energy electron diffractionhave been used to examine the structure of Ba overlayers on TiO2(110)1 × 1 formed by metal vapor deposition. At low coverages, rows of width ∼10 Å develop in the [11̄0] and [001] azimuths. At higher coverages wherethe TiO2 surface is almost completely covered, a c(6 × 2) overlayer is formed. Taller rows with 1 × 5periodicity are formed at Ba coverages above a single layer.
