Abstract
| - The interpretation of the molar conductivity of lithiumtrifluoroacetate and lithium difluoroacetate solutionsin propylene carbonate obtained from precise measurements attemperatures 238.15 ≤ T/K ≤ 308.15 in theconcentration range 7 < 104c/moldm-3< 90 requires the consideration ofion-pair and unilateral triple-ionformation despite the high permittivity of the solvent.Association constants and triple-anion formationconstants strongly increase at decreasing temperature, in accordancewith the assumption of strong non-Coulombic effects. At all temperatures the association constants oflithium trifluoroacetate are lower thanthose of lithium difluoroacetate, revealing the electron withdrawingeffect of the substituent decreasing thecharge density on the oxygen atoms. Traces of water increase theconductivity of the solution, showing thatwater selectively solvates the lithium ion.
