Abstract
  • Poly(3,3‘-dihexyl-4,4‘-dimethyl-1,1‘-ferrocenylenearylene)shave been synthesized from the reaction of dilithiobis(3-hexyl-4-methylcycylopentadienide)arylenes andiron(II) iodide. The polymers have been oxidized with 1.5equiv of iodine to form poly(ionomers). The physicalproperties, the electrochemistry, and the magnetic moments of theneutral and oxidized polymers aredescribed.
  • Bis(3-hexyl-4-methylcyclopentadienyl)arenes have been prepared from the sequential lithiatiation of dibromoarenes followed by reaction with3-hexyl-4-methylcyclopenta-2-ene-1-one. Thedicarbinolis then dehydrated with p-toluenesulfonic acid to givethe bis(3-hexyl-4-methylcyclopentadienyl)arene.Poly(3,3‘-dihexyl-4,4‘-dimethyl-1,1‘-ferrocenylenearylene)swereprepared via the reaction of dilithiobis(3-hexyl-4-methylcycylopentadienide)arylenes and iron(II) iodideinTHF. The organic bridging ligands and polymers werecharacterized by DSC, GPC, NMR, CV, UV−vis, andTGA.
