Abstract
  • The first-order hyperpolarizabilities of aseries of mono-, bi-, and trinuclear organometalliccompounds were determined using Hyper-Rayleigh Scattering at 1.06 μm. The molecular nonlinear opticalresponses (NLO) were investigated for various combinations of iron(II) and iron(III), including mixed-valenceiron(II)/iron(III) complexes. In the latter case, it is shownthat the NLO activity can be controlled by one-electronredox processes.
  • The molecular nonlinear optical responses (NLO) were investigated for organometallics containing one, two, or three Cp*(dppe)Fe units connected through ethynylbenzene structures. The compounds [{Cp*(dppe)Fe(C⋮C−)}2(1,4-C6H4)]n[PF6] (4n+, n = 0, 1, 2) act as reversible electro-optical switches.
