Syntheses and Molecular Structures of[Mg4(THFFO)6(OSiPh3)2] and [Al3Mg(μ3-O)(THFFO)3(Me)6]Relevant to Ziegler−Natta Catalyst Intermediates(THFFO = 2-Tetrahydrofurfuroxide)
[Mg4(THFFO)8] used as an olefin polymerization catalyst can be trapped by Ph3SiOH groups to form [Mg4(THFFO)6(OSiPh3)2] (1). We have also shown that in the reaction of magnesium alkoxide with AlMe3 the methylalumoxane unit Al3(μ3-O)(Me)6 is formed, which was isolated and characterized as the molecular compound [Al3Mg(μ3-O)(THFFO)3(Me)6]·C6H5CH3 (2).
[Mg8(THFFO)8] used as a olefin polymerization catalyst component can be trapped by Ph3SiOHgroups to form [Mg4(THFFO)6(OSiPh3)2] (1; 77%). Wehave also shown that in the reaction of magnesiumalkoxide with AlMe3 the methylalumoxane [Al3(μ3-O)(Me)6]+ unit is formed, which was isolated and characterized as the molecular compound [Al3Mg(μ3-O)(THFFO)3(Me)6]·C6H5CH3 (2; 40%) (THFFO = 2-tetrahydrofurfuroxide).
