Abstract
  • The monofluoromethylidene complexes Ru(CHF)(H2IMes)(PCy3)Cl2 (10) and Ru(CHF)(H2IMes)(py)2Cl2 (11)have been synthesized from Ru(CHPh)(H2IMes)(PCy3)Cl2 andRu(CHPh)(H2IMes)(py)2Cl2 via reaction with β-fluorostyrene.Both 10 and 11 catalyze ring-closing metathesis and cross-metathesis with activity comparable to that of Ru(CHOEt)(H2IMes)(PCy3)Cl2.
  • The mono(fluoromethylidene) complexes Ru(CHF)(H2IMes)(PCy3)Cl2 (10) and Ru(CHF)(H2IMes)(py)2Cl2 (11) have been synthesized from Ru(CHPh)(H2IMes)(PCy3)Cl2 and Ru(CHPh)(H2IMes)(py)2Cl2 via reaction with β-fluorostyrene. Both 10 and 11 catalyze ring-closing metathesis and cross-metathesis with activity comparable to that of Ru(CHOEt)(H2IMes)(PCy3)Cl2. Although 10 does not react with ethyl vinyl ether, 11 reacts to form Ru(CHOEt)(H2IMes)(py)2Cl2 and vinyl fluoride. Though stable in the solid state, 10 eventually decomposes in solution to the carbide complex Ru(⋮C:)(H2IMes)(PCy3)Cl2.
