| Abstract
| - Climatics gradients and thresholds between the tropical zone and the temperate zone : the example of South America - The spatial organization of the main climatic elements (temperature, precipitation) was analysed in South America, east of the Andes cordillera and on the transitional areas between the temperate and tropical zones. This study allowed to identify the climatic gradients and thresholds and to draw maps using the usual climatic classifications. The results suggested a climatic classification of the studied area with divisions and subdivisions at distinct hierarchical mesoscale levels. The average climatic data for the period 1951-2000 was used in the analysis, but the variability and some extreme events must be taken into account too. In fact, meridional circulations sometimes cause cold waves with frost in the tropical plains.
- La distribution spatiale des principaux éléments climatiques (température, précipitations) a été analysée sur l’Amérique du Sud, à l’est de la Cordillère des Andes et sur les confins tempérés et tropicaux du continent. Cette étude a permis d’identifier des gradients et seuils climatiques et de cartographier, à l’aide de classifications usuelles, une trame climatique proposant des divisions et subdivisions à différents niveaux hiérarchisés de méso-échelles sur l’ensemble de l’espace étudié. L’analyse des données climatiques prend en compte les moyennes sur la période 1951-2000, mais tient compte aussi de la variabilité interannuelle et de certains phénomènes extrêmes, par exemple les circulations méridiennes responsables de vagues de froid et de gelées dans les plaines tropicales.
