| Abstract
| - Résumé. La Société de Construction des Batignolles, fondée en 1846 et devenue société anonyme en 1872, s’illustra à la fois dans les constructions mécaniques et métalliques et les grands travaux publics. En ce dernier domaine, l’obtention de concessions constitua l’un des moyens essentiels pour elle de parer aux aléas de la conjoncture. Si elle obtint dès 1880 la concession du port de Tunis, ses plus belles opérations furent ferroviaires : ligne Dakar-Saint-Louis et, surtout, réseau de la Compagnie de Bône-Guelma. À partir de son expérience coloniale, la SCB s’intéressa ensuite à l’étranger : toujours dans le cadre d’une concession de travaux publics, elle mit à son actif la grande ligne de chemin de fer du Pirée à Salonique. Ces concessions contribuèrent de façon indiscutable à l’implantation internationale des firmes françaises.
- Abstract. The Société de Construction des Batignolles (SCB) was founded in 1846 and incorporated in 1872. As a balance to its work in the competitive sectors of machinery and metal structure construction, it sought the financial stability of the concessions which followed from the public works projects it performed. These included the concession of the port of Tunis in 1881 and two particularly lucrative railways, the Dakar-Saint-Louis line and the Compagnie de Bône-Guelma network. Following its successful experience in the French colonies, it built and obtained international concessions such as the Piraeus-Salonika railway. In this way, the SCB was both a precursor and a model for the subsequent internationalisation of French firms.
