| Abstract
| - Culture’s resources. The author discusses the way the indigenous cultures of the Pacific became sacred symbols of nationalist policies in the 1970s, before undergoing a process of aesthetisation that transformed them into marketable art. The article points out some of the links between these two moments in a process usually interpreted as a “cultural renaissance”, although both are actually successive phases in a continuous trend towards westernisation.
- L’auteur retrace le parcours qui a conduit les cultures indigènes du Pacifique à être sacralisées depuis les années 1970 en tant que symboles politiques nationalistes avant de connaître par la suite un processus d’esthétisation et de marchandisation artistique. L’article souligne certaines des relations entre ces deux moments, interprétés le plus souvent comme « renaissance culturelle » quand ils sont tous deux constitutifs de phases successives d’un mouvement continu d’occidentalisation.
