| - A travers l’histoire des lecteurs d’une communauté ouvrière à Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray, l’auteur s’interroge sur la spécificité des lectures ouvrières. Elle met en évidence un temps fort de pratiques collectives entre 1945 et les années 1970 caractérisé par trois pôles de lecture, la presse ouvrière (La Vie Ouvrière) et locale (Paris-Normandie), des romans de la littérature classique mais aussi des romans du vécu et des romans communistes, et enfin des ouvrages sur la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Les processus d’appropriation révèlent une forte référence au vécu, l’influence de la culture cégétiste mais aussi des formes de résistance aux prescriptions de lecture. Ainsi, à l’échelle des cercles de lecteurs et de lectrices, des modes d’appropriation singuliers apparaissent en fonction de la place de la lecture dans leur construction identitaire. D’une communauté ouvrière homogène on passe donc à une communauté diversifiée de lecteurs.
- History of a community of working-class readers : another trip into the working-class culture ? . Through the history of the readers in a working-class community in SaintÉtienneduRouvray, the author wonders about the specificity of the workers’ readings. She puts forward an important lapse of time of collective practice between 1945 and the 1970’s characterized by three reading streams : the workers’ press (La Vie Ouvrière) and local press (Paris-Normandie), classical literature novels as well as real life novels and communist novels, and finally works on the Second World War. The appropriation processes show a strong reference to actual experience, the influence of the C.G.T. union’s culture, but also some forms of resistance to reading prescriptions. Thus, according to the circles of readers, some singular appropriation modes show up depending on the importance of reading in the development of their identity. From a homogeneous working community, we discover a diversified reading community.
