| Abstract
| - Résumé. Au lendemain des désastres et destructions causés par les guerres, est apparue l’urgence de protéger les sites patrimoniaux et naturels qui représentaient un symbole pour l’ensemble de l’humanité. Dans ce cadre, les objectifs du Patrimoine mondial sont d’identifier, de faire connaître et de protéger ces sites naturels et culturels exceptionnels. De façon parallèle, le développement durable est arrivé à la suite des constats de la destruction de l’environnement par la production et la consommation effrénées des ressources. Cet article présente cette évolution sociohistorique similaire entre le Patrimoine mondial et le développement durable, et illustre les apories du développement touristique durable dans les sites culturels protégés. Entre la protection et l’attractivité, la conservation et la touristification, entre l’universalité de la valeur des sites et l’impossibilité de les rendre véritablement accessible à tous, comment réaliser une croissance touristique durable ? L’article présente quelques implications pour les gestionnaires de sites historiques et patrimoniaux qui sont aux prises avec les mêmes contradictions.
- Abstract. After the disasters and the destructions caused by the wars, appeared the urgency to protect the patrimonial and natural sites which represented a symbol for the whole humanity. In this frame, the objectives of the World heritage are to identify, to become known and to protect these exceptional natural and cultural sites. In a parallel way, the sustainable development arrived following the reports of the destruction of the environment by the wild production and the consumption of the resources. This article presents this similar social and historical evolution between the World heritage and the sustainable development, and illustrate the contradictions of the sustainable tourism in the protected cultural sites. Between the protection and the attractiveness, the preservation and the touristification, between the universality of the value of sites and the impossibility to return them really accessible to all, how to realize a sustainable tourist growth? The article presents some implications for the managers of historic and patrimonial sites who are battling against the same contradictions.
