Abstract
| - SUMMARY. Placental transfer and foetal distribution of 14C-dimethyltubocurarine were studied in pregnant women undergoing therapeutic abortion during first trimester of pregnancy. 14C activity was determined by liquid scintillation counting, employing oxidation method developed by Kaartinen (1970). Paper chromatography was carried out on foetal and maternal blood samples from several of the cases. 14C foetal plasma concentration approximated one-tenth of the maternal value. The highest I4C total activities were found in the placenta and of foetal tissues in the lungs and the liver. The distribution of the foetal tissue activity was markedly even and scanty. The lowest 14C concentration was found in the brain. As compared to the foetal plasma activity per ml the 14C concentration in the brain was only about one-tenth per gram.
