Abstract
  • In separate experiments, plants of barley, oil-seed rape and Arabidopsis were grown in controlled environment fumigation chambers and were subsequently exposed either to isoprene gas (50-150 parts per billion by volume (ppbv)) or to clean air only. In every experiment exposure to isoprene significantly accelerated the onset of flowering. The physiological and ecological significance of these findings are discussed.
