Abstract
  • A behavioral intervention of goal-setting with feedback and contingent reinforcement was used to increase stationary bike riding in 8 male nursing home residents with multiple major medical and psychiatric disorders. A consistent increase in riding resulted among all participants. For 6 of the 8, levels were maintained after withdrawal of reinforcement. These findings support the effectiveness of behavioral strategies in enhancing health-promoting behaviors of physically disabled, institutionalized individuals.
