| Abstract
| - Chemical structures of glucosyl-ceramide, lactosyl-ceramide, and digalactosylglucosyl-ceramide, minor glycolipids isolated from porcine erythrocyte stroma, were determined by the chemical analysis and gas-liquid chromatography of methylated methyl glycosides after methanolysis of fully methylated glycolipids. These glycolipids showed different spots with different Rf-values on thin layer chromatography, indicating differences in their fatty acid and sphingosine base compositions. Each glyco-lipid contained both normal and hydroxy fatty acids, and amounts of hydroxy fatty acids were higher than normal fatty acids. In contrast, sphingomyelin contained only the normal fatty acids. The double bond in monounsaturated fatty acids of glycolipids seemed to be predominantly located at the 9: 10 position from methyl end. Occurrence of significant quantities of phytosphingosine in these glycolipids seemed to suggest a close relationship with the presence of the hydroxy fatty acids as in the case of mammalian kidney glycolipids.
