Abstract
  • It was examined by high resolution electron microscopy whether or not tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) having stacked-disk structure could be obtained only by heat treatment of fresh TMV having the usual helical structure. Examinations due to optical diffraction pattern and multiple printed pattern were also tried for the purpose. As the results, by repeating the treatment in which TMV was rapidly cooled from room temperature to liquid air one and then returned to room temperature, the transition from the helical structure to the stacked-disk one was found, though It was not yet perfect. It was also found that It was possible to make many circular disks by repeating above-mentioned treatment about 70 times and there was the circular disk having 15 subunits in addition to 16-17 subunits.
