Abstract	Alarmed by certain statistics on the impact of mathematical publications written in the Netherlands, as compared with the world-wide counterpart, and looking for possible faults of statistical design, the author set out to determine the age distribution of citations of mathematical publications by taking a sample. The results are presented first, followed by the ‘prehistory’.
