Abstract
| - Abstract. (1) (1)Antimalarial compound 1698L, a synthetic alkaloid of the quinazolone series, was tested in Malaya in Asians with naturally occurring light infections of P. falciparum and P. vivax. (2) (2)Doses of 1 to 4 mg. daily for 5 to 7 days proved almost useless as a treatment for 10 patients with acute falciparum malaria. Falciparum gametocytes seemed unaffected. (3) (3)The acute attack was apparently cured in four out of six patients with vivax malaria given doses of 2 to 4 mg. daily for 4 to 7 days. (4) (4)The drug had a pronounced emetic action ; nine out of fourteen patients on doses of 2 to 4 mg. daily suffered from nausea and frequent vomiting. (5) (5)For the present, this compound remains of mainly theoretical interest.
