Abstract
  • Abstract. 1. 1) A comparison is given of surveys done in villages near Gombero, Tanga Province, Tanganyika in 1933-1934, and two subsequent examinations in 1951 and 1960. The physical condition of the people, their malarial history and their survival rates are described and summarized. 2. 2) The conclusion was reached that, although there has not been any very great change in 26 years, there has been a slight improvement; the only possible cause for this would seem to be the rise in the economic level. 3. 3) The average parasite count in babies under 1 year of age has fallen from over 7,000 per c.mm. in 1934 to 1,500 in 1960. The adult spleen rate has fallen from 39 in 1934 to 16 in 1960.
