Extraction of the marine sponge Tetilla japonica from the Bay of Thailand furnished tetillapyrone andnortetillapyrone, two unusual tetrahydrofurylhydroxypyran-2-ones, whose structures were establishedby NMR spectrometry and an X-ray analysis of tetillapyrone.
